What is this nonsense about eating the literal flesh and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?

It is symbolic. Jesus makes that clear in John 6:69, and also because the Bible calls it a remembrance of Jesus's sacrifice as the only acceptable payment for our sins, thanking the Lord Jesus and praising Him for what He has done for us :)
